As a teaching principal at Mapleton Elementary School in Mapleton, Gail Gibson uses what she learns in the classroom to help shape the school's curriculum. A highly successful grant writer, Ms. Gibson obtained funding for a school-wide teacher research team that meets once a month to review ways of improving classroom instruction. She also received funding to create a Parent Room at Mapleton, allowing parents to become more involved by giving them a place on campus to work on classroom-related projects, tutor students, and develop parenting skills. Ms. Gibson recently used donations from the community and a partnership with a local business to computerize the school library.
