Students in Freda Mae McNew's class at Salyersville Grade School in Salyersville receive a thorough grounding in math, science and technology. Using the AIMS (Activities Integrating Math and Science) program, Mrs. McNew engages her students in hands-on activities that combine math and science with other disciplines. Mrs. McNew has implemented the TLC (Teaching and Learning with Computers) program, integrating technology into every aspect of the curriculum. She trains other teachers in both programs, as well as on the use of the Kentucky Early Learning Profile Assessment. Mrs. McNew welcomes volunteers and speakers from the community and works closely with the school's Family Resource Center to provide services to students and families.
