Arriving at work early and staying late, Frank Caro is a permanent fixture at Tigard High. Friendly and good-natured, he is always surrounded by a group of students or colleagues. His leadership, combined with his dedication to improving student achievement, makes Caro a highly sought-after specialist and much- admired instructor.
Caro groups his lessons based on individual instruction, effectively meeting the diverse needs of his students. He was instrumental in bringing the IB program to Tigard High. He also wrote his own textbook and maintains a Facebook fan page for his class. Caro uses best practices in his English Learning Acquisition (ELA) curriculum, introduces students to a broad spectrum of literature and has high expectations for all. Dozens of students attend his afterschool study sessions. Caro even designed a summer school class to help struggling students prepare for his upcoming class.
Caro has the highest percentage pass rate in social studies, and 63 percent of students passed the IB Psychology exam. Credit recovery improved 85 percent in his summer class. Caro also earned a Teaching American History grant.
A member of several state-level committees, Caro served as a liaison between the union and school staff during negotiations. He serves on the Advisory Committee and oversees the Key Club and National Honor Society, the two largest on-campus clubs. Caro mentors students from his classes, teaches at local universities and secured funding for the social sciences summer school.
I am so very excited to meet more educators and work to improve education and the development of future educators!
