Biographical Information

Francine Johnson is a National Board Certified master teacher at the National Teachers Academy (NTA), a professional development school in Chicago. An outstanding teacher of teachers, Johnson has mentored candidates for National Board Certification in the Chicago Public Schools' candidate preparation program and works with first- and second-year teachers in Chicago Public Schools Golden Teacher Program. Ms Johnson has also served as lead mentor for the Chicago Public Schools mentoring program at NTA. Previously, Johnson was a teacher at Leslie A. Lewis Elementary School and at the John Hay Elementary Community Academy in Chicago. While a teacher at Oscar Stanton DePriest Elementary School in Chicago, Johnson taught first and second graders, boosting student learning by strengthening the home-school partnership. Her Traveling Classroom Library supported family literacy efforts by encouraging parents to read books to and with their children, and her "Grandmother Series" paired students with adult family members in academically appropriate and interdisciplinary activities and projects. Johnson has written several articles and presented workshops on familial involvement.
