Exemplary student academic growth, the closing of a street to ensure student safety, an in-house television studio, Internet access and a fully automated Media Center are some of the ways in which Faye Frye, principal of Stoneville Elementary School in Stoneville, measures her success as an educator. "These advances," Ms. Frye explains, "offer students a better environment in which to succeed, and when they succeed, so do I." Since 1992, she has served on a district planning team that has implemented year-round schooling programs at Stoneville Elementary School and five other area elementary schools. Improved knowledge retention, higher attendance for both students and staff and increased state test scores in the areas of reading and math are some of the achievements resulting from the year-round reform. An educator for 30 years, Ms. Frye is a frequent participant and leader in professional development activities.
