Eugene Wade, business teacher and department chair at Brentwood High School in Brentwood, uses a point system to give students an incentive for achievement and good behavior, awarding points for punctuality and correct answers to questions and removing points for tardiness, incorrect answers and bad behavior. A leader of both students and fellow educators, he has served as sponsor of the student senate since the school's inception and has variously served as president, secretary, treasurer and chief negotiator for the Williamson County Education Association. For 30 of his 34 years as an educator, Mr. Wade worked a second job as a hospital telephone operator, during which time he never missed a single day of school.
