Elizabeth McIntosh, the health and physical education teacher at Simon Kenton High School in Independence, has created a program called "Fitness for Life" that helps students understand the benefits of exercise and teaches them to set and meet personal fitness goals. Through her program, students conduct a fitness pre-test, use multimedia technology to research and design an individualized wellness plan, perform a variety of exercises, and evaluate their progress at the end of each nine-week session. As co-coordinator of the school technology team, Ms. McIntosh provides after-school technical assistance to students and is responsible for organizing the teacher in-services that help faculty better support learning.
