In addition to serving as principal of Polson's Cherry Valley Elementary School, Elaine Meeks is project administrator and co-creator of a child- and family-support program called the Polson Partnership Project. The program provides individualized prevention and intervention services to at-risk children and their families, emphasizes community engagement in school activities, and is credited with improving academic performance and attendance and tripling parental involvement. She has organized a Literacy Leadership team, special library and Family Literacy programs, and an extensive professional development agenda including the AmericaReads program which uses volunteers as reading tutors. Mrs. Meeks is involved in the writing of the state's communication arts standards and benchmarks.
