Edward Wong teaches social studies and chairs the social studies department at Vicksburg High School, where his innovative Mississippi River course has attracted national attention. Mr. Wong's teaching ability and rapport with students have been featured on the local television series "Education: The Way Up" and in David M. Marquis and Robin Sachs's book "I Am a Teacher: A Tribute to America's Teachers." In 1991 he was asked to appear in a television public service announcement promoting teaching as part of the "Be a Hero: Teach" campaign. Mr. Wong has been a recipient of WLBT-TV's Spirit of Mississippi Award, and he was named Mississippi's 1987 Teacher of the Year.
