Dwight Souers taught biology at Willamette High School in the Bethel School District. He was recognized not only for an extraordinary grasp of his subject, but for his enviable ability to relate it to the lives of his students. This former Oregon Secondary Science Teacher of the Year assisted in teaching at the University of Oregon, and made numerous presentations at the professional conferences and workshops. An area that held special interest for him was biology from the Native American perspective. Mr. Souers was a former Oregon Indian Educator of the Year, Oregon Biology Teacher of the Year, and was selected to participate in the first National Teachers' Forum in Washington, D.C., sponsored by the Education Commission of the States.
