Since receiving the Milken Educator Award in 1996, Dr. Teresa Wallace has left the classroom but has continued her career in education. She completed her doctorate in school administration and instruction in 1999 from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, and is currently serving as superintendent of Lincoln County Schools. Previously, Dr. Wallace taught math and general science to grades one through five at Woodstock Elementary School in Somerset. As an advocate for recent state school reform and as an active member of numerous educational councils, Mrs. Wallace developed and conducted extensive teacher training in the area of mathematics. In her classroom, she implemented a math portfolio program designed to provide students with hands-on problem-solving tasks corresponding to their various ability levels. A firm believer in the importance of parental involvement, Mrs. Wallace conducted parental training sessions on topics proposed by the parents themselves. Over the years, she has worked with parents on such areas as homework assistance, math in the home and computer education. In 1996, Mrs. Wallace received the Presidential Award of Excellence in Math.
