Fourth-grade teacher Tammy Alexander at Lynn Fanning Elementary School in Meridianville was the first teacher in her school to implement the Accelerated Reading Program. Other teachers followed her lead, and the program is now being used in every classroom at the school. As a trainer for the National Science Foundation's HAnds-on Science Program (HASP), Ms. Alexander helps other fourth-grade teachers develop a more activity-based science curriculum. She is also a member of Fanning Elementary's technology committee. Prior to teaching, Ms. Alexander was the director of Girls Incorporated, an advocacy agency designed to help young girls develop confidence and break free of traditional stereotypes.
