After six years as a principal of Kelvyn Park High School in Chicago, Rodolpho Serna now serves as the district's assistant superintendent for the Department of Language and Cultural Education. His appointment to this position reflects his ability to bridge the gap between schools and the largely non-English-speaking community. While at Kelvyn Park, Dr. Serna raised funds for a math and English learning center and a computer resource center. Additionally, he established a dropout-prevention program which focuses on the development of basic skills and career preparation. Both Chicago's Citizens' Schools Committee and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund have recognized Dr. Serna for his outstanding achievements.
