In 1995 Rita Kelly became the principal of Century High School in Bismarck. Since that time, she has introduced several reforms at Century to enhance student learning. The most recent shift will begin in the fall of 2003 with a later start time for students. According to Dr. Kelly, research confirms that high school students' circadian rhythms favor late nights and later morning starts. Additionally, the school day has been been revamped to include a 55-minute daily inservice time for teachers to learn and share that learning to impact student achievement.
