Peter Litchka, who teaches ninth grade civics and twelfth grade economics at North Carroll High School in Hampstead, has been a leader in curriculum development for economics education in his area. "I became deeply involved in curriculum development in the mid 1980s," he says, "and since then, our county has been recognized at the local, state and national levels for the quality of our economics education." As chairman of the Restructuring Committee at his school, Mr. Litchka has also been instrumental in restructuring the school's schedule from a traditional seven-period/45-minute-class day to a four period/90-minute day. Having successfully rallied the support of faculty, students and parents, Mr. Litchka has initiated a program that has greatly enhanced the school's cooperative spirit and improved the quality of education at North Carroll.
