Principal Martha Rahming, who transformed Ft. Pierce's Garden City Elementary School into a technology magnet school, believes that a school can only be as successful as its teachers. Dr. Rahming maintains a continuous staff development focus through distance-learning opportunities, training sessions on reading and writing, block scheduling for planning, and regular teacher award and recognition programs. In turn, staff excellence is reflected in the school's many innovative programs and high levels of student achievement. She has also developed a character education program and established GEM (Garden City Elementary Mentors), a community mentoring program that has tripled in size in three years.
