"Not one to stay in my office, I am constantly observing in classrooms and interacting with students and teachers in the hallways and on the playground," says Margaret Moore, principal of James I. Gibson Elementary School in Henderson. In recent years, Dr. Moore's emphasis has been on improved mathematics and technological instruction. To this end, she has designated a math specialist at her school and instituted an intensive in-service math program for teachers, students and even parents. The Parent Math Cadre has involved many parents directly in the school's math program. Dr. Moore is also responsible for overseeing the allocation of all school and PTA funds towards the installation of a computer network. Now that the system is in place, Dr. Moore is currently pursuing the priority of developing a cutting-edge technologically incorporated curriculum. In 1995, the United States Department of Education named Dr. Moore a National Distinguished Principal.
