As teacher and curriculum coordinator for the Putnam Public Schools, Louise Pempek focuses on lowering the dropout rate and on maintaining a high level of staff quality and interest. Through her efforts to engage student commitment, Dr. Pempek has coordinated an alternative curriculum which has helped reduce the district's dropout rate by 44%. Originally trained as a math teacher, Dr. Pempek encourages innovative methods in the classroom and promotes professional development for staff through yearly symposia and frequent colleague training sessions. Recently she received the first annual "outstanding school educator" award from her alma mater, the University of Connecticut School of Education Alumni.
