As principal of Cecil E. Gray Middle School in Groveland, Dr. Janice Boyd has been a pioneer in school reform and fostered profound improvements in student achievement. In its first year under the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP), Gray Middle School rose from a "C" rating in the state's A+ plan to an "A," achieving double-digit increases on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) in reading, writing and math. The campus was also recognized by the governor as one of the top 100 schools in Florida for outstanding progress in writing. Dr. Boyd has impacted teacher quality at the state and national levels. She was the only principal appointed by former Florida Commissioner of Education John Winn to serve on the State Board of Education's E- Comp Advisory Committee regarding performance-based pay.
