Donald Ring, principal of Niles West High School, knows that strong and effective leadership in a school is imperative for successful learning. His leadership style fosters excellence in staff, students and parents. His supportive manner encourages teachers to improve and innovate. By such things as serving as a mentor and holding book report conferences with freshman students, Mr. Ring guides by example. He actively encourages parents to become involved in all aspects of school life, from the academic to the extracurricular. His successful leadership was recognized in 1991, when Niles West received a national Excellence in Education Award.
