Daniel Lawson, former principal at Ambler Avenue Elementary School in Los Angeles Unified School District, believes that a total curriculum must include arts education, and he has received many honors for the innovative arts program he established at Ambler. Initiated seven years ago, this integrated program has improved attendance, reduced behavior problems, and improved the way students respond to school. This year, Dr. Lawson became an elementary district administrator for the Los Angeles Unified School District. He was a recipient in 1990 of the School Administrators Award from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
