Daniel Durbin, English and forensics teacher at F.J. Reitz High School in Evansville, has helped his students achieve the highest state assessment scores in the city of Evansville. Much of their success has been the result of an innovative teaching approach called "Four-matting," in which student instruction is designed according to one of four different types of learning abilities. Mr. Durbin's teaching model has been implemented throughout his district. He also heads the Reitz speech team, which has enjoyed great success under his leadership, and whose 142 members make it one of the largest speech teams in the country.
