National Board Certified teacher Cliff B. Barrineau uses a variety of instructional practices to make math relevant to his students at Hand Middle School in Columbia, South Carolina. He has a "can do" attitude and spends extra time with students to ensure their mastery of each subject area. If students score below their ability on a test, Dr. Barrineau will not only re-teach the material, but will re-test his students until they reach their potential. Outside the classroom, Dr. Barrineau continues to help students-even those not in his classes-through lunchtime tutoring sessions for those who need extra help. He created a math team to give high-achieving students an outlet for their interest in the subject. Last year his students achieved a 100 percent passing rate on the Algebra I end-of-course test.
