Charla Faulker Crews is the Instructional Technology Specialist for Language Arts for Halifax County Public Schools. She works closely with teachers at each school to strengthen academic programs by using student data to determine needs and then helping to locate instructional resources to aid in integrating technology in daily instruction. At the time of the award Mrs. Crews taught second-grade at Meadville Elementary School in Nathalie where, thanks to her efforts, the school was recognized as one of the region's top schools in improving student performance. As Lead Teacher for curriculum, instruction and staff development, Mrs. Crews collected and disseminated resources for teaching, conducts weekly study groups with fellow teachers, and developed tools to help her colleagues incorporate the state's social studies standards. To maximize the benefits of parental involvement, she developed an after-school tutorial program for students and parents, and presents workshops for parents at a local church. A consultant for the State Department of Education, Mrs. Crews also chaired the Project Idea Screening Committee and the Communication Committee and served on the Planning and School Improvement Teams.
