Dorothy (Neal) Maxwell teaches business and technology at Sacopee Valley High School in Hiram and is a prolific author in the area of business education. Last year, she was awarded an important Goals 2000 Innovative Education Grant for her school, thereby creating an opportunity for her entire school district to explore and implement current educational approaches. In her classroom, Mrs. (Neal) Maxwell has always encouraged ties to the business community, and the Business Education Advisory Committee, which she helped initiate, has served to shape and direct curriculum development. Thirteen years ago, in an effort to compensate for her school's isolation from major business centers, she introduced an office simulation program, Project InVEST, which in its revised form is used in 250 schools nationwide. In 1994, Mrs. (Neal) Maxwell was recognized as Maine Teacher of the Year.
