Deveria Berry has taught first-grade students at Martin Luther King, Jr., Elementary School in Hartford for 20 years. Ms. Berry is involved in many of the team-building programs at her school, and is especially enthusiastic about her work in the state of Connecticut's Beginning Educator Support and Training (BEST) Program, in which she serves as mentor, assessor, cooperating teacher and recruitment coordinator. She is active in her community's educational efforts as well, and has produced several television programs for WVIT, including The Effect of Television on Children. She has been a recipient of the MLK Outstanding Teacher Award and has received a Certificate of Award from the Assessor Evaluation Committee.
