Teacher Debra Gurule seeks out non-traditional strategies to instruct her kindergartners and first-graders at Cuba Elementary School in Cuba. She recently co-created a nature program that allows students to access the World Wide Web from an outdoor trail using portable computers and wireless Internet technology. Mrs. Gurule helped develop the Families and Schools Together (F.A.S.T.) parent center at Cuba Elementary, which provides a wide variety of activities to help strengthen parent-child relationships. She is the chairperson of both the District Management Council and the Site-Based Unit Management Council for Cuba Elementary. Mrs. Gurule is a member of the district's technology committee and has made frequent presentations on integrating technology into the classroom.
