Language arts teacher Deborah Clarke is leading efforts to improve student learning and achievement at Rosenwald Elementary School in South Bay, a school serving a predominantly inner-city migrant population with a high number of children speaking English as a second language. The teaching strategies that Mrs. Clarke uses have been so successful that even her special needs students are reading and writing. As a member of the Palm Beach County Teacher's Guild, she presents her classroom as a model for teachers throughout the county to observe. She is also a member of the Florida State League of Teachers, sharing her talents as a master teacher with colleagues throughout the state and a recipient of the Mary J. Brogan Exellence in Teaching Award.
