Principal Dave Freeland, of Rozet Elementary School, Wagonwheel Elementary School, and now retired in Gillette, did much of his administrative work at night so that he could spend the day visiting classrooms and interacting directly with students and teachers. He could be seen early in the morning on the playground, in the lunchroom during lunch, and was involved with all aspects of his school. Under Freeland's leadership, teachers were allowed to individualize their instructional methods and encouraged to attempt new programs and further their professional development. He valued all of his staff, both certified and classified, and encouraged parents to participate in the educational process. Mr. Freeland was equally supportive of his students, personally attending many of their activities and keeping track of their progress. A student of technology, Mr. Freeland regularly used email to communicate with his staff and other educators.
