As team leader for his building's third-, fourth- and fifth-grade teachers, Dave Bertholf played a key role in raising math problem-solving scores at Clear Lake Elementary School in Keizer to rank among the highest in the state. An advocate for Talented and Gifted (TAG) children, Mr. Bertholf developed a program for TAG students combining technology with his regular weekly instruction. In 1995, when he was chosen to make structural and program decisions for the opening of the new Clear Lake Elementary campus, he helped guide students, staff and the community through a challenging transition process. Named Oregon's Teacher of the Year in 1999, Mr. Bertholf serves as a faculty advisor for teacher education at Willamette University.
