Darlene Walsh, an educator for 18 years, teaches first grade at Greenbush Elementary School in West Warwick. She has made many presentations for the International Reading Association and has conducted an in-service program for primary teachers on integration of phonics programs and a workshop of effective schools. Her current position as a member of the governor's 21st Century Education Commission allows Ms. Walsh to travel around the state to listen to citizen's concerns about education, as well as to help make decisions that can work toward alleviating some of those concerns. In 1991, she was selected Rhode Island's Teacher of the Year.
