Third-grade teacher Danielle Calvillo employs unique ways of infusing art and technology into her cross-disciplinary curriculum at Valencia Elementary School in Los Lunas. In a unit on the Italian Renaissance, her students drew and painted while lying on their backs, à la Michelangelo. Mrs. Calvillo's students are well-versed in technology, implementing multimedia skills and graphic design when presenting reports and projects. A mentor teacher and certified trainer in the Spalding literacy method, she played a key role in realigning the district's social studies and arts curricula with state standards. Mrs. Calvillo is a member of several committees, including the Building Leadership Team and the Educational Plan for School Success (EPSS).
