Teacher Daniel Mullins brings math to life for students at Winter Park Ninth Grade Center in Winter Park. Using a hands-on approach to instruction that involves each student in active learning, Mr. Mullins takes his students on field trips to illustrate the presence of geometry in real life; for example, he has taken them to a pool hall to study angles and patterns. His work helped Winter Park students earn the highest math scores on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) in the entire tri-county area. As the Ninth Grade Center's curriculum leader, Mr. Mullins played an instrumental role in aligning the Center's curriculum with that of the middle school and main campus. He is chair of the ninth grade math department and sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He presents at county and state conferences, and teaches a class at the local community college.
