Over the past ten years, 100 percent of Dagan Ferrier's fifth-grade students at Indian Creek Elementary School in San Antonio have passed the state assessment in math, reading and science, with nearly two-thirds scoring a Commended Performance rating on a recent Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). Mr. Ferrier has helped his students achieve such remarkable success despite the fact that almost all of them are economically disadvantaged. He frequently monitors his students' learning, re-teaching concepts until his students have fully grasped them. Mr. Ferrier is the author of several math and science workbooks, which he has published through a company he co-founded called Forde-Ferrier Educational Services. He is chair of the district's Science Steering Committee, leader of the fifth-grade math team and a member of the Superintendent's Science Initiative Committee. With such an impressive track record, it's no wonder why other teachers and district officials frequently seek Mr. Ferrier's advice.
