For kindergarten through sixth grade special education students at Emma V. Lobbestael Elementary School in Mt. Clemens, Cynthia Ann Broad is indeed a special teacher. She is special for the development of a faculty/community support group for students affected by divorce, and for utilizing literature and applying Bloom's taxonomy to comprehension, thinking and survival skills for teachers throughout the state. Through her efforts, the L'Anse Creuse Public Schools were the first in the county to create a K-6 special education curriculum guide. Her teaching innovations raise a few eyebrows but open countless young minds. Ms. Broad was Michigan Teacher of the Year 1989.
