At Hilltop Elementary School in Caribou, teacher Cindy Albert has established an elementary French program that makes learning a foreign language dynamic and fun. Even in their first year, her students are singing, counting to 100, and responding to questions in French, all in a full-inclusion, multi-age curriculum that adheres to state standards. In her first year in the district, Ms. Albert was the prime mover behind a district-wide foreign language fluency level program in French. She is a National Board Certified teacher in early childhood education, has a master's degree in literacy education, mentors new teachers, publishes and presents nationally on multi-age education, and serves on the teacher preparatory advisory team at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
