Chuck Snowden is a physical education teacher for the sixth, seventh and eight grades at Casey Junior High School in Boulder. His teaching philosophy and experience reveal him to be someone who values an open and fair educational environment above all. "I create an atmosphere of personal safety for all my students," he says. Mr. Snowden finds harassing behavior of any sort intolerable, and he is vigilant about protecting and enlightening his students. He believes that tolerance and hope are the best lessons he has to offer his students. "They are fearful of the future," he says, and he tries to provide them with the conditions to diminish some of those fears. Mr. Snowden became an educator primarily because he wanted to "touch and influence the future." His faith in that future helps bring it within reach for himself and for his students alike.
