By integrating science, math, technology and art, science teacher Chris McAuliffe inspires students at Oxbow Community School in White Lake to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom. His pupils learn how to turn ordinary VCRs into working cranes, or two-liter pop bottles into rockets launched in front of the entire school. A firm believer in connecting home and school life, Mr. McAuliffe provides parents with a multitude of ways to participate in their children's school days. He developed a classroom management system used by many in the district. When not working with students or raising his three children at home, Mr. McAuliffe volunteers as a firefighter/EMT for the Highland Fire Department, conducting CPR and first aid trainings, and serving as a fire prevention coordinator. He was also on a response team that was sent to the World Trade Center after September 11.
