Cheryl Floyd, principal of Lake City Primary School in Lake City, is a third- generation educator who received "perfect training" from a family of "mentors who were dedicated, enthusiastic, and who truly loved children." Ms. Floyd holds that although as principal she must provide leadership, it is the collaborative effort that is the source of a successful school. Bringing recognition to a school in a small, rural community by being named Palmetto's Finest School as well as a National Blue Ribbon school, has been particularly rewarding for Ms. Floyd. High student achievement has also earned the school ten consecutive incentive rewards. Ms. Floyd believes that besides promoting academic excellence, a school must also cultivate a family environment and a school culture, complete with traditions. "Administrators," says Ms. Floyd, have to be the keepers of the "dream."
