Fifteen years ago, when most educators thought of computers only as a tool for business education, computer resource teacher Charles Trautwein spearheaded the establishment of a local area network in the Garrett County schools through the Maryland Education Technology Network. He has since expanded the schools' technological resources with additional hardware and ongoing teacher training. Working directly with middle school science, math, language arts and social studies classes, Mr. Trautwein shows both teachers and students how to use technology as a tool for accomplishing specific academic goals. He was responsible for wiring all Garrett County schools according to state standards and initiated a summer technology camp for local upper elementary students.
