At Woonsocket Career and Technical Center in Woonsocket, Charles Myers, Jr.'s innovative construction technology program is so popular that it currently has a waiting list. Each year, students in the program build an Energy Star-certified house for low-income, first-time home buyers. Proceeds from home sales are returned to the program for administrative costs and to fund scholarships for seniors pursuing a construction-related education in college. Mr. Myers has worked with other career and technical schools throughout the state to improve Rhode Island's construction curriculum. He is also helping to develop a new energy-efficient construction curriculum so that teachers across the nation can educate their students about Energy Star-certified homes. Mr. Myers has been a registered and insured Rhode Island contractor since 1990 and is a certified Energy Star contractor.
