During the tenure of Principal Charles Lutgen, Woodland Park Middle School was transformed from a struggling junior high into a nationally recognized middle school. A "walking around" principal, Mr. Lutgen visited each classroom daily and regularly called upon local businesses to keep them up-to-date on the school's progress and goals. He breakfasted with the parents of kids who are having difficulty, and lunched with the honor roll students. No one was left out, because Principal Lutgen created special opportunities for each student and staff member. His motto, demonstrated in countless cases, was "If you believe in yourself, you will receive."
