Catherine Blair, math, technology and science teacher at Tampa's Manhattan Westshore Choice Alliance Elementary School, has devised numerous projects that make technology an integral part of learning. In her "Marine Mammal Trackers" project, students use remote satellite images to monitor endangered marine species. Ms. Blair's "Launchpad to the Future" unit includes a space shuttle simulator built in an old school bus and in-flight communications with the space shuttle Columbia. In "Red Rover", her students re-enact the Mars Pathfinder mission by constructing a programmable, motorized rover using Legos mounted with a digital camera and placed in a makeshift Martian terrain - all connected to the Internet.
