Principal Cathlin Gray has transformed Cedar Hall Elementary School in Evansville into a full-service organization that teams with 30 local agencies to provide social, medical and recreational services to families in need. The core of the program is the Family Learning Center, a professionally-staffed resource center that includes a lending library of games, audio tapes and videos. Additionally the center sponsors monthly Family Night movies, after-school workshops for families and a baseball league. Mrs. Gray initiated Even Start, a family literacy program that provides GED classes for parents, a daycare center and a pre-school. In 1997, Mrs. Gray led a team that visited other full-service schools around the country and coordinated a conference of representatives from these schools.
