Carol Swinney teaches Spanish and French to the ninth through twelfth grade students of Hugoton High School in Hugoton where, since 1978, she has raised funds to sponsor student exchange trips to Mexico as part of the school's foreign language program. Ms. Swinney has also played a pioneering role in the development of an interactive television network serving as both instructor and spokesperson in contract negotiations. "My vision of global community provides my mission of preparing young people to assume a productive role in tomorrow's society," says Ms. Swinney. "I personally strive to motivate students to develop communication skills that will prepare them to meet the demands of the 21st century workplace. In order to achieve these goals, I incorporate innovative techniques into my teaching strategies so that I, too, can meet the challenges of tomorrow's classroom."
