Fourth grade teacher Carol (Samsel) Ravagnani of New Britain works with children whose daily lives include poverty and drug abuse. To help overcome these obstacles, she has developed novel methods, like starting a student-run store where children count change, take inventory, and balance cash drawers. With Old Sturbridge Village she authored a local history project in which students traced the development of New Britain from an agricultural to an industrial town. As a test site for National Geographic's KIDNET program, her students telecommunicate with others around the country, solving real-life science problems. Ms. (Samsel) Ravagnani is a Connecticut Celebration of Excellence Award Winner.
