Carol Chauffe is a media specialist at the Swink School in Swink. Until very recently Mrs. Chauffe had been a second grade teacher, but in the short space of two and a half years she has managed to complete graduate school "while juggling a husband and three children and a career change." Since that time she has spearheaded efforts to improve her school's library facilities. "Media specialists," she points out, "are much more than the custodial librarians of the past." Mrs. Chauffe would like to see an extension built onto the current school structure; her recent efforts to assemble collections into the media center have resulted in the need for larger space that would give the Swink Public School Library "an opportunity to become a flourishing community information resource center." For Mrs. Chauffe, a successful library is a hub that serves students, staff, and community and brings them together. The Swink School Community has been of utmost importance to her evolution and formation as an educator. "I am," she insists, "a product of my environment."
