Biology teacher and science department head Bruce Rife started the AP Biology and certified nursing programs at Soldotna High School on the Kenai Peninsula. He brings a passion for nature combined with years of experience at the Forestry Service to his technology-integrated courses. Mr. Rife's dynamic instruction techniques, such as teaching immune system concepts through dramatic role-play, and field study with forestry and wildlife agencies, Indian Tribal Lands and forensics laboratories, have motivated many students to pursue science careers. He sponsors the school's National Honor Society, and coaches its championship Academic Decathlon team. Soldotna High School students regularly receive top honors at state and international science and engineering competitions. Mr. Rife develops educational workshops and enhances the teaching profession through his involvement with organizations such as the Challenger Learning Center and Friends of Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.
