Although most students remember Brenda Campen's social studies class at Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka as a very demanding experience, many also identify it as the class where they learned the most. Campen's high standards have earned her several honors, including an Outstanding Secondary Social Studies Teacher Award from the Alaska Council for the Social Studies and a National Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award. An educator for over 30 years, Campen is a member of numerous professional organizations and a frequent presenter at conferences in the Western United States and Canada. Campen has also participated in the development of her state's education standards and assessment materials for history.
