Brenda Ball teaches English and advanced placement literature and writing to the twelfth grade students of Pine Bluff High School in Pine Bluff. "When I accepted my first teaching position at age thirty-two," says Ms. Ball, "I became a mentor, mother, counselor, comforter and confidante to those placed in my care." Stimulated and challenged by her students, Ms. Ball has been inspired to "stretch" her mind and body by staying current with trends in education. Named the 1991 Arkansas Teacher of the Year, she is a member of several professional organizations and has served on various educational committees. In addition to writing numerous educational articles for newspapers, Ms. Ball has had her teaching techniques published in educational books and journals.
